Production begins at Haier’s new refrigeration plant

Production has begun at Haier Europe’s brand new, purpose-built €70m refrigeration plant in Romania.

Both built-in and freestanding fridges will be coming off the line for Haier Europe’s three brands – Candy, Hoover and Haier.

The 63,000sqm (678,000sq ft) facility will have a focus on connectivity and preservation, the company said, employing nearly 800 people for an expected production of 600,000 units per annum after this year. The factory design, which is based on modular approach, will allow an expansion of up to one million units.

Alessia Ianni, Cooling Technical Operation Director at Haier Europe and Managing Director at Haier Tech Romania, commented: “This project will make Romania a strategic hub for Haier Europe and will play a key role in its strategy to become one of the top three leaders in the industry by 2023.

“With its large production capacity, technology transfer and logistic features, we are confident this facility will be a first class project that effectively shows our ‘zero distance to consumers’ philosophy.”

Haier said that the Romanian plant will feature “state-of-the-art production processes” born by its advanced R&D, manufacturing capabilities and know-how, while the project itself represents a strategic move for the company in the global refrigeration market and in the execution of its vision to become the first choice for consumers for smart home appliances.
