Toshiba today announced the new Toshiba TV WK3 range of ‘hands-free’ TVs, with Alexa built-in. Currently available from Amazon and ao.com, the TV will also be available from Very and Currys in the coming weeks.
Available in 24 and 32-inches, Toshiba TV’s new hands-free TV with Alexa built-in is the first TV released to the UK market to have a far field microphone embedded in the bezel, meaning users can talk to Alexa hands-free.
The Toshiba WK3 range is ideal for kitchen or bedroom use, allowing users to control the TV without using their wet or dirty hands or while completing chores. TV viewers can use their Smart TV functions hands-free, including being able to turn the TV on and off, change the channel and volume, ask questions, access weather forecasts and travel information, play music, set timers and add calendar entries all without lifting a finger. Leaving users free to cook, clean, type, swipe, and anything else they need their hands for without stopping what they are doing to pick up a remote.
Users will have Alexa on hand to help, whether it’s accessing recipes in the kitchen, asking for your house cleaning playlist while doing chores or controlling your smart home technology – all hands-free. Users simply need to use easy utterances such as:
- Alexa, turn on the TV
- Alexa, what’s the weather?
- Alexa, tune to BBC One
- Alexa, play music
- Alexa, play my chores playlist
The Toshiba WK3 is loaded with all the top streaming apps built-in as standard, offering all the latest movies, boxsets, trending music and catch-up TV. Content from across 85 live Freeview channels, as well as over 20,000 hours of on demand content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK and Horror Bites is also available thanks to Freeview Play integration.
Bart Kuijten, Commercial Director at Toshiba UK comments “Voice control is the fascination of millions around the UK. At Toshiba we want to offer our customers an incredible seamless smart home experience by offering our customers intelligent and responsive technology to fit into their increasingly connected, smart home ecosystems.
“The WK3 is a fantastic proposition for our customers, the Alexa embedded technology takes voice activation to a new level for our customers. With the vast majority of day-to-day functions available through hands free voice control, this fantastic TV is ideal for viewing while cooking, cleaning or bathing, eliminating the need to pick up a remote.”
Eric King, General Manager, Amazon Alexa Europe, added: “We are always looking for new ways to bring Alexa to our customers and we’re thrilled to be working with Toshiba to launch the UK’s first hands-free TV, powered by Alexa.”
