Loewe returns to shake up premium TV market with new models

On its 99th anniversary year, German television manufacturer, Loewe, has announced its return to the industry with a collection of new products…

This will be the bild i television, as well as a selection of accompanying audio solutions – two soundbars, the klang bar i and klang bar 5, plus the klang sub 5 subwoofer. It’s a “significant turning point in the brand’s history”, company bosses said, as it aims to “certify its position within the premium TV market”.

Loewe also said these new products will be available in Harrods, Selfridges and selected high-end retailers from Autumn this year.

Back in the 1930s and 40s, Loewe became famous for its quality, design-led televisions that challenged the traditional black box; over the years it has championed a number of tech-firsts, including being one of the first TV brands outside of LG to adopt OLED technology in 2016, and the first ‘Smart TV’ back in 2008.

But the company is now back (under new ownership) with the bild i TV, available in three sizes – 48, 55 and 65-inch – with a 4K OLED panel, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

The VIDAA operating system enables fast access to integrated streaming services such as Netflix or Prime Video, alongside regional catch-up services courtesy of Freeview Play. Plus, there’s a huge 1TB hard drive to record your favourite shows and store in one place.

The bild (which is German for ‘screen’) i has a vivid display and impressive sound, with a hidden, rear-facing ‘invisible speaker’ so as not to disrupt its clean lines and visually striking appearance.

All Loewe televisions come complete with its Mimi Defined personalised sound technology, developed in conjunction with Mimi Hearing Technologies. Mimi Defined draws on millions of user’s worth of data to determine a tailored sound experience based on age, or by inviting the user to take an individual hearing test via Mimi’s in-app platform for a truly bespoke audio performance.

Also in Loewe’s new collection are two soundbars, the klang bar i and klang bar 5. The former features eight powerful drivers and 80 watts of total music power; it discreetly blends in with the underside and rear panel of the bild i by sitting neatly underneath it.

Meanwhile, the klang bar 5 comes as part of a set alongside the sub 5 subwoofer, which together enable crystal-clear, powerful 3D sound. The klang bar 5 boasts a total music output of 440 watts thanks to two ‘up-firing’ and two ‘side-firing’ speakers which, when paired with the klang sub 5’s additional 360 watts, guarantees a powerful 800 watts-worth of sound that fills the room and creates a truly immersive home cinema experience.

The klang bar 5 also benefits from three HDMI ports with 4K pass-through to provide a stable connection to UHD players, set-top boxes and game consoles, while HDMI eArc/CEC allows control via the central TV remote.

The duo can be paired with any television, whether a Loewe set or not, and thanks to their wireless capabilities all streaming services are supported alongside the likes of Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay2.
