Yusen Logistics’ flagship warehouse achieves latest eco certification

Last year, Yusen Logistics UK, the retail sector-focussed logistics company, expanded its service offering with the opening of its state-of-the-art flagship warehousing facility in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Today, the 368,000sq ft site employs over 200 employees, dispatching over 40,000 units a day of high end consumer electronics serving same or next day nationwide delivery to more than 150 end destinations.

Following Yusen Logistics’ bold rebranding strategy, the facility has been designed in line with the company’s new vision – Connecting people, businesses and communities to a better future – through logistics. The site adheres to the highest environmental standards including an A-rated BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) grade and the best EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) rating possible for its size.  It has also attained The Planet Mark certification – achieving an impressive lifetime carbon reduction of 24.7 per cent (or 6,303 tCO2e).

Through The Planet Mark programme and in line with its ongoing commitment to sustainability, over 270 acres of rainforest in Southern Papua, New Guinea, has been protected to mitigate 100 per cent of the unavoidable embodied carbon associated with the development of the new site.

In collaboration with The Eden Project, Yusen Logistics also worked with local communities to deliver sustainability workshops to more than 230 children from two local primary schools – both of which subsequently received The Planet Mark accreditation.
