Nominees for TRIC Awards 2021 are announced!
The nominees have been announced for this year’s TRIC Awards, to be presented at a lavish ceremony in central London on 15 September 2021.
TRIC (the Television and Radio Industries Club – Not for Profit) will be celebrating 52 years of the TRIC Awards, and recognising the very best TV, radio and online shows, as well as Britain’s most-loved stars and talent.
Working in partnership with Sky and OK!, as well as ERT as its trade media partner, the awards will be presented in front of an invited audience of over 250 guests and for the first time, fans can watch all the action on a free livestream!
This year’s venue is the prestigious 8 Northumberland Avenue, in the shadow of Trafalgar Square. The event will be preceded by a glamorous red carpet for the press and media.
With thousands of votes cast by members of the public and industry experts, the shortlist contains some of the biggest and best-loved names in the broadcasting industry. It promises to be a hugely entertaining ceremony, with a galaxy of stars and celebrities joining the fun, drawn from the world of comedy, drama, reality TV, factual, news and sport.
Having been the last major industry event before the March 2020 lockdown, this year’s long-awaited ceremony promises to be an epic celebration as the country emerges from the pandemic. The event will pay tribute to all the dedicated, hard-working industry professionals who kept our spirits high during the dark days of lockdown.
Jane Ostler, TRIC Chair, said: “It’s been a tough year for broadcasters and we’re delighted to pay tribute to all those committed professionals who kept the show on the road. In the 18 months since the last TRIC Awards, we’ve become a nation of box-set bingers and audio fanatics. Now we can’t wait to put on our party dresses and show our appreciation for a fantastic year in TV, radio and online.”
There will be 18 hotly-contested awards on the night, including the TRIC Special Award. In the TV Personality category, Ant & Dec are up against Bradley Walsh and Alison Hammond.
The News Presenter award is a three-way fight between Huw Edwards and former GMB colleagues Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.
The Drama category sees Call The Midwife, The Crown and Killing Eve going head-to-head, while the New Drama award has Des, Gangs Of London and Bridgerton as contenders.
In Comedy, it’s a tight race between After Life, Sex Education and Would I Lie To You? Meanwhile in Entertainment there’s stiff competition between Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad and Gogglebox.
In the Sports category, it’s a battle of heavyweights with A League Of Their Own taking on A Question of Sport and Match Of The Day.
And for Reality shows, there’s a new kid on the block as The Masked Singer faces Strictly Come Dancing and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!
There’s an award for Podcast of the Year, while radio nominees include Roman Kemp, Tony Blackburn, Zoe Ball, Jason Manford, Kate Garraway and the Capital Breakfast Show.
This year’s TRIC Awards will be raising money for Combat Stress and akt – Albert Kennedy Trust.
