Hughes sees record-breaking sales on Black Friday

Hughes Electrical saw a record-breaking Black Friday, with reported sales of £1.8 million on the day.

Online business accounted for half of this figure and the retailer saw sales increase by 63.6 per cent compared with £1.1m in 2014.

Hughes managing director Robert Hughes said: “To put it into perspective, sales on Black Friday were equivalent to a week’s normal business.

“Online continues to be the way many now want to shop and there was a great surge in click-and-collect sales through www.hughes.co.uk and also those taking advantage of free home delivery.

“Trade running up to Black Friday was down both in-store and online, giving clear evidence that consumers deferred their spending to take advantage of the event.

“Some retailers tried to extend the promotion into a ‘Black Week’, whereas we put all our marketing focus into the weekend, starting with a special preview evening on the Thursday in all stores for existing customers. While we might have lost some sales at the beginning of the week, we more than made up for it by the end.”
