Hi-res audio and HDR TVs among Sony’s IFA highlights

Sony has unveiled its new line-up of products at IFA 2016 in Berlin.

The Japanese electronics giant revealed a new ‘Signature Series’ flagship line-up of High-Resolution Audio products, comprising the MDR-Z1R stereo headphones, two new WM1 series Walkman models (the NW-WM1Z and NW-WM1A), and the TA-ZH1ES headphone amp.

It also unveiled the MDR-1000X hi-res wireless noise-cancelling headphones, which are said to boast industry-leading performance.

Sony will also be showing new flagship models in its Z-Series of Bravia 4K HDR TVs, with 100in, 75in and 65in screen sizes. The range now features a newly developed 4K-image processor – the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme.

This series is also the first to be equipped with Sony’s Backlight Master Drive back-light technology, which the company claims achieves deeper blacks and brighter highlights.

Sony also announced that its Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector and Glass Sound Speaker, already on sale in Japan and the US, will now be available in the UK.

The FDR-X3000R 4K Action Cam was also unveiled, and is the company’s first Action Cam to be equipped with the Balanced Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation technology, made possible by a newly developed lens.

Sony president and chief executive Kazuo Hirai said: “Our relevance to you lies in continuing to offer emotional value through a wide range of products which are intimately involved in enhancing what you see, hear, experience and enjoy.”
