‘Get more involved with local events,’ urges retailer

A leading retailer has urged companies to get more involved with local events.

ERT award-winning electrical retailer Dacombes of Wimborne argued that local events are a good way to get your name out there and be more approachable for consumers.

Managing director Matt Renaut (pictured centre) recently took part in the annual Folk Festival in Wimborne, for the third consecutive year.

“There’s a lot of work involved,” he said. “There’s a lot of reasons why we do it. The main thing really is to get our name out there. What we didn’t want to do was just set up and say, ‘here we are, and we’re selling TVs’. We want to be seen as ‘fun’, for want of a better word.”

Both Dacombes and Samsung sponsored a plot at the festival, which included a selfie booth competition giveaway, where the person with the most shares and likes for their selfie at the end of the month would win a Samsung R Series smart speaker.

The retailer also gave out leaflets offering customers a 10 per cent discount on Samsung QLED TVs if purchased in-store in the following days.

“Adding the selfie booth is just a bit of fun and a competition, and it’s working quite well at the moment,” he explained. “There are quite a lot of comments and people sharing and liking.

“It’s very important because we spoke to a lot of people that day and we’re seen not just as a company who sells TVs but also as being approachable.”

Dacombes will also be taking part in the Wimborne Food Festival in October, where it will be teaming up with appliance brand Neff.
