Electrical Safety First extends deadline for Safety Innovation Awards

Electrical Safety First’s Safety Innovation Award puts the spotlight on those individuals and businesses who put safety at the heart of product development and service offering, while incorporating sustainability and innovation.

To support an increasingly diverse selection of applicants, the date for entries has been extended to 29 September 2021.

“We want to promote applications from businesses of all sizes – as well as individuals – that have developed an innovative product or project initiative which enhances consumer electrical safety,” explained Martyn Allen, Technical Director at Electrical Safety First.

“We know that, during this period of uncertainty and rapid technological change, there is huge opportunity for innovation and creativity in product safety to thrive.”

Entrants to the awards must include a detailed description of how their innovation improves safety, together with supporting evidence of how it fulfils award criteria. Applications are open to projects, products and services, at all stages of development, including design and concept.

Last year’s award winner was the E-Bulb from JOB. Described as the world’s smallest fire extinguisher, it is a key component in device-integrated fire protection. Bodo Müller, JOB Group CEO, and inventor of the E-Bulb, was delighted with the business benefits the company gained from Electrical Safety First’s Safety Innovation Award.

“Following the award ceremony, we have been covered by Germany’s national broadcast and print media. Market awareness and new inquiries have increased, and the award has also helped us accelerate the process of standardizing the E-Bulb as an additional safety component.”

Applicants who are shortlisted will be invited to give a presentation to judges on Tuesday 5 October, after which two finalists will be selected. They will go ‘head-to-head’ at Electrical Safety First’s Annual Product Safety Conference, on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 November, where the winner will be selected by the audience.

Continued Mr Allen: “At Electrical Safety First, safety is the core of everything we do. Our Safety Innovation Award reflects this and encourages other, like-minded, organisations that  prioritise safety. This award is all about acknowledging those individuals and companies who stand out as safety champions.”
