Currys PC World is to install ‘smart home tables’ that are dedicated to Google Home and Amazon technology in 100 of its leading stores.
The displays will bring to life the benefits of smart-home technology, allowing shoppers to interact with Google Home and Amazon Echo and the household devices they connect to – demonstrating how voice control can seamlessly connect a variety of smart devices throughout the home, including heating, lighting, security and power.
The smart home tables are in stores in Birmingham (Selly Oak), Tottenham Court Road (London), Staples Corner (London), Fulham (London), Portsmouth, Cheltenham, Slough and Leeds (Central) from this week and have been confirmed to be in 100 shops by December.
The retailer said it had introduced the new in-store feature to cater for the ever-increasing consumer demand for smart-home technology, with year-on-year smart-home sales up 146 per cent in 2017.
Currys PC World has seen a sharp rise in accompanying smart tech products. Year-on-year sales of smart lighting are up 91 per cent, smart security up by 83 per cent, smart power and monitoring devices by 56 per cent and smart thermostats, such as the Nest and Hive, are up by 79 per cent.
Said Rachael Walsh, head of smart technology at Currys PC World: “Smart technology is developing at a rapid pace, with product portfolios of brands continuously evolving and consumer demand showing a similar growth, as reflected by our stats. Voice-activated products have also been predicted as a key focus Christmas 2017, dominating tech gifting lists. The ambition with the introduction of our ‘smart home tables’ is to demonstrate the full benefits of the technology for our customers.
She added: “It’s now less about the home being ‘smart’ – it’s more about the home being able to think for itself. When devices are ultimately connected, they can decide on outcomes that best suit someone’s lifestyle – so whether that’s pausing heating schedules, turning up the lights or controlling your music. The ‘smart home tables’ will help consumers appreciate the full offering of smart home tech and the true benefits – it’s ultimately all about making things that little bit easier.”
