Colleagues remember Paul Smith

Colleagues are remembering Paul Smith, who has passed away at the age of 68 after a long fight with cancer.

He was Product Purchasing Director at Cleartone Audio Visual, and latterly Product Purchasing Director at Hamlets Audio Visual. He worked for both companies for a combined length of 20 years.

He negotiated with all the major consumer electronics manufacturers and enjoyed frequent dealer trips abroad with them.

Mr Smith, who was a regular reader of ERT, was renowned for his business negotiating skills and will be remembered fondly by the industry’s trade suppliers.

Mike Hamlet, who used to run Hamlets Audio Visual and worked with Mr Smith, said: “Paul was a strong negotiator for rental, retail and insurance replacement products but always insisted there must be a margin in the deal for our suppliers.

“And his favourite saying was ‘how much (box money) extra bonus are we getting?’”

Mr Smith is survived by his wife Maureen and son Carl.
