Beko continues its commitment to the planet, hosting Hack the Normal 2022

Beko Plc and its parent company, Arçelik, are hosting the Hack the Normal 2022 Sustainability virtual event between 13-15 May with hundreds of top entrepreneurs, engineers, and developers coming together to create solutions for the most pressing environmental challenges relating to the circular economy, water management, and climate change.

The company said this demonstrates and furthers its commitment to the environment – something it has been passionate about for many years. In 2019 and 2020, Arçelik became carbon-neutral in its global direct operations, and as a company it is now setting its sights on higher targets, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. The Hack the Normal event commences with a host of inspirational sessions on Friday 13 May, beginning with an introduction from Arçelik CEO, Hakan Bulgurlu. The first panel of the morning is from Arçelik’s state-of-the-art Romanian factory, discussing sustainable production practices and the role technology plays within this.

Alongside key industry stakeholders, Beko Plc’s Managing Director, Teresa Arbuckle, will be hosting the second panel of the day, discussing how we all can encourage consumers to reduce carbon emissions through better education, as well as responsible product consumption, repair, and recycling.

Ms Arbuckle will be joined by Paul Hide, CEO of AMDEA, Richard Morris, CEO of IPG Media Brands, and Moria Thomas, Director of Group Sustainability and ESG at Currys. By discussing various challenges, approaches and potential solutions to the current environmental crisis, the panellists hope to inspire attendees to strive for a more sustainable future this year and beyond.

Ms Arbuckle said it is essential to nurture a culture of collaboration and innovation, especially if we are to effectively tackle some of today’s urgent environmental challenges…

“Collective climate action is the driving mission behind this year’s Hackathon, and that is why we are bringing together key industry stakeholders to discuss solutions that will have a lasting positive impact on our environment.”
