Beko’s parent company Arçelik receives Prince of Wales sustainability award

Arçelik, the parent company of Beko, has been awarded the Terra Carta Seal, which recognises global companies that are driving innovation and demonstrating their commitment to genuinely sustainable markets.

It is awarded to companies whose ambitions are aligned with those of the Terra Carta, a recovery plan for Nature, People and Planet, launched in January this year.

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales was deeply encouraged by Arçelik’s commitment to reducing Scope 1&2 GHG emissions by 30 per cent and the Scope 3 emissions from the use of sold products by 15 per cent as of 2030, compared to 2018 baseline and achieving Net-Zero GHG/CO2e emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.

This follows the launch of Beko’s Sustainability range, which sees RecycledNet ovens and RecycledTub Washing Machines partly created from recycled materials.

The Prince of Wales said: “The Terra Carta Seal recognises those organisations which have made a serious commitment to a future that is much more sustainable. We all need to make changes if we are to preserve the planet for our children and grandchildren and these businesses have pledged to make it easier for us all to do so.”

The Terra Carta Seal acknowledges that each industry faces unique challenges in its transition to a sustainable future, and all companies must be supported as they take steps in a more positive direction. At the same time, an accelerated pace is required if we are to achieve a 1.5-degree target, restore biodiversity and benefit the lives and livelihoods of current and future generations.

The Terra Carta Seal has been awarded to companies who hold a leadership position within their industry and who have credible transition roadmaps underpinned by globally recognised, scientific metrics for achieving net zero by 2050 or earlier.

Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Arçelik, met HRH The Prince of Wales alongside other CEOs to celebrate the awards and commitment to the battle against climate change.

Mr Bulgurlu said it was “a great honour” to be one of the leading companies recognised and to receive the inaugural Terra Carta Seal.

“Creating a sustainable future and setting ambitious targets is the number one priority for Arçelik, and receiving the accolade demonstrates that we are living these commitments as a business. We are committed to the creation of genuinely sustainable markets, which care for nature, people and the planet.”
