Amdea safety standards expert wins award
Amdea’s technical manager Stuart MacConnacher has been awarded BSI’s International Standards Maker Award for his “outstanding contribution to work on safety standards”.
Mr MacConnacher has represented the UK on many international and European committees for the past 25 years. The UK’s national standards body recognised his contribution at a ceremony on November 27.
He has been influential in bringing about changes to standards in household appliances that safeguard children and vulnerable people, including improving tumble-dryer safety to prevent children getting trapped and introducing a warning on dishwashers on how to load knives safely.
Amdea chief executive Douglas Herbison said: “The appliance industry echoes the BSI’s admiration for Stuart MacConnacher’s utter commitment to improving standards. His tireless work helps to ensure that standards keep up with the fast pace of our industry’s technological advances as well as changes to legislation. This BSI award celebrates his significant achievements and represents the appliance industry’s continual improvement of standards in order to safeguard consumers.”
