AMDEA pledges priority repairs for NHS staff and carers for crucial washing machines and freezers
Manufacturers of domestic appliances are offering priority repair or replacement services for key health workers who need to keep their own homes and families sanitised and safe.
AMDEA, the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances, whose membership represents more than 90% of the UK’s leading brands of fridges, freezers and washing machines has announced that the vast majority of its members are striving to offer the earliest possible repair or replacement appointments to the nation’s heroic health workers.
With delivery staff and service engineers at a premium, AMDEA members are prioritising slots for NHS staff who need urgent help or advice with their appliances.
AMDEA is posting notices on professional message boards and social media platforms reassuring key workers that appliance manufacturers still have teams providing essential delivery and maintenance, while observing Government and PHE (Public Health England) safety recommendations that protect both field operatives and householders.

“This is AMDEA’s clap for carers, as manufacturers strive to ensure that NHS workers know that, if they need help, our appreciation will take them to the front of the queue.”
Last week, in a letter to AMDEA, Business Minister Paul Scully acknowledged the need for the industry to be permitted to provide emergency support by continuing to fix or replace any major appliances requiring attention.
It is essential that at the end of the day doctors and nurses can count on their washing machines and fridges.
However, the industry also recognises the practicalities facing families nationwide and emphasises that, despite staff shortages and a range of other challenges, all major brands are also maintaining the best level of service possible for the general public.
Mr Hide adds:
“Over the coming months efficiently functioning domestic appliances will be crucial for families striving to follow Government guidelines to keep their families safe. Rarely have food conservation, home and personal hygiene and home cooking been more essential.”
