A soon-to-be-released 50in 3D plasma TV from Samsung is currently being offered on pre-order for $989 (£650).  

This low, low price is causing a great deal of interest and astonished one traditional US retailer who has kindly brought it to my attention.

The price is very low for a 3D TV and it should be noted that the necessary glasses are sold separately.  And although the set is a 50in plasma model, it is also significant that the resolution is 720p.

No doubt this is the first of many cheaper 3D TV sets.
