Greetings from Las Vegas. Well, I’ve had plenty of time to wander around CES, so I thought I’d share some of my initial thoughts on the show with you.

THE UK’s Advertising Standards Authority, the quasi-official body tasked with keeping adverts “legal, decent, honest and truthful” is convening a full council meeting this month to try to make a final decision on Samsung’s complaint against adverts for passive 3D TV run by LG Electronics in early July.

It’s that time of year again, folks, when the great and good of the consumer electronics industry jet off to Las Vegas for the annual tech fest that is CES (January 10-13).

UltraViolet, the much-vaunted, long-awaited, still-unproven, new standard for movie downloading and “digital locker” cloud storage to rival tried and tested iTunes, is now soft-launching on Boxing Day.

If you are planning to sell Nokia’s new flagship smart phone, the Lumia 800, be prepared to do some hefty homework.

ONE of the most eye-grabbing signs in Times Square in New York is the LG screen – with adverts for passive 3D that make the newspaper adverts that LG ran in the UK look like very tame.

EVERYONE loves meerkats – smart and cuddly but cunning and ruthless, with a strong sense of family and very territorial. Much like 10in-tall residents of Coronation Street or Albert Square, in fact.
