The new Google TV Network Media Player and Blu-ray Disc Player from Sony are due to be released in a staggered launch in early summer in the US and UK and with planned expansion into other regions after that, but there is not yet any mention of what the devices will cost.

The Network Media Player NSZ-GS7 and Blu-ray Disc Player NSZ-GP9, both powered by Google TV, will enable users to connect the devices to their televisions with an HDMI lead to watch TV (when also connected to a set-top box or TV service), enjoy apps and browse the internet.

The devices will also allow the user to access the Android Market, including 150 apps that have been designed and optimised for the TV.

Another feature is TrackID, which will be able to quickly search and identify music related information hears on TV broadcasts.

The new remote control for both devices has a touch-pad, qwerty keyboard and back-light, a microphone for voice search and motion sensor.

Sony also pointed out that mobile apps on Android devices, including the Sony Tablet and Xperia phone, as well as Apple’s iPhone and iPad, will allow cross-device connectivity where users can “throw” the website from a mobile device to the TV, and vice versa.

Ben Law, category marketing manager of Sony UK commented: “We were the industry’s first to launch Google TV products in 2010. By leveraging our Sony internet TV know-how, we will offer new products with enhanced user experiences to more customers. Furthermore, we will create new value in home entertainment by strengthening the compatibility of Bravia TV and mobile devices.”

Said vice-president of product management at Google TV, Mario Queiroz: “Consumers have reacted very positively to the Google TV software update of last October, and we are looking forward to bring new devices of different form factors to consumers in multiple countries in 2012.”
