Changes at the top for Sony Europe

Back

Masaru Tamagawa

Sony Europe has appointed Masaru Tamagawa as its new president.

He will take over the role on July 1 from current president Fujio Nishida who is to become chairman of Sony Europe overseeing the transformation programme being implemented throughout Sony’s consumer electronics operations in Europe.

Mr Tamagawa (pictured) has been managing director of Sony India since 2007 where he oversaw business and revenue growth and ensured Sony remained the country’s top electronics brand.

Sony chief executive Kazuo Hirai said: ““Europe is one of Sony’s most important markets. While the uncertainty around the Euro currency and economic instability have had a big impact on sales over recent years, Mr Tamagawa’s unique expertise, drive and dedication to frontline sales and marketing operations will help us overcome the challenging business environment.”

He also praised Mr Nishida’s “considerable leadership and experience” and said his new role would allow him to ensure that transformation measures he introduced would be completed, as well as aiding a seamless management transition.
