Big screen Oled TV in LG's CES lineup | Back |

LG unveiled what it claims is the world’s largest Oled TV at CES, although Samsung also showed an Oled screen of the same size (see story).
The 55in EM9600 Oled TV (pictured) joined the company’s 2012 TV line-up using cinema-screen styling and 3D sound systems.
Due to go on sale in the second half of this year, the EM9600 is just 4mm deep and weighs 7.5kg. LG called it “a glimpse of the future of TV” and, as such, it includes the company’s 4-colour pixels and colour refiner features.
LG also revealed what it described as the world’s largest 3D Ultra Definition (UD) TV. This 84in model, which is also due to go on sale in the second half of the year, combines LG’s 3D and Smart TV technology with an Ultra Definition display.
It is said to offer eight million pixels – four times the resolution clarity of existing Full HD TVs – while a 3D depth control allows users to personalise the 3D effect. It also offers 3D Sound Zooming said to rival the best home cinema systems.
LG pointed out that, as Sky’s first choice for 3D TVs, it is committed to its Cinema 3D technology and promised that more than 60 per cent of its latest range will be 3D-ready.
The company also used CES to show the first of four new home cinema systems. The BH9420TW, which will be available in the first half of this year, is equipped with the brand’s latest 3D sound technology complete with a 9.1 speaker system.
The launches, said LG, signal its commitment to premium design – its 3D TV series uses its new cinema screen design with ultra-thin bezel - and ground-breaking technology, which is supported by further developments in Smart TV such as an enhanced platform and Smart Share 2.0 offer. The latter is said to make multi-screen viewing even simpler. LG promised more than half of its new TV line-up will feature Smart TV functionality, underlining its belief in the connected home.
It has already formed a global partnership with Google (a UK launch is planned for next year) and is planning more premium content services.
Also, more than 70 per cent of this year’s range will have wi-fi built in and there will be an improved Magic Remote with additional voice recognition technology and a browser wheel.
The company is also introducing two Smart TV upgraders (the SP520 in March and SP820 in May) which will offer users the opportunity to access the LG Smart TV platform from any TV with an HDMI connection.
“Driving technological innovation with premium quality is at the heart of everything we do at LG,” said LG’s consumer electronics marketing director Stephen Gater.
“Unveiling the world’s largest Oled TV is just one example of our commitment to be the first-to-market leaders in our field.
“LG is globally recognised for its cutting-edge technologies,” he said. “We’re excited about our line-up this year – our premium range of new stylish TVs offers a true statement of style that people will be proud of having as the hub of their home.”
