| 11 February 2010 In a recent Knightline I wrote about Sharp encouraging the members of the Home Theatre Specialists of America (HTSA) buying group to become involved in the installation of solar panels. It is over 30 years ago since I first visited Sharp’s “Solar House of the Future” in Osaka and Sharp has been leading the way in this technology ever since. Of course, the solar panels of today are a vast improvement on those early models. Meeting the demand for solar power is now a fast growing business. In Knightline I mentioned that the HTSA had an excellent video up on YouTube that promoted the concept of a “Guiltless Green Home Theatre”. Here is the link: It shows HTSA members fitting solar panels that generate so much power that the customer’s electricity meter spins backwards as it returns energy to the national grid. The system includes a Sharp projector, a 100in Steward Film screen, six Speaker Craft in-wall speakers, an Integra AV receiver, Monster Cable wiring and Lutron lighting - all this is controlled by a universal remote control. The system was installed by Hi-Fi House Design and this is a link to that retailer’s site: A couple of years back, the HTSA buying group specialised in providing up-market TV and hi-fi products, but now it is expanding rapidly as its members embrace all things green. Could it happen over here in the UK? Are independents ready to go solar? Graham Knight | |
