Mirrorless FujiFilm for enthusiasts

FUJIFILM is building on the success of its fixed-lens X10 and X100 models with the introduction of its latest X-Pro1 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

Boasting 16.3 megapixel resolution, the X-Pro1’s X lens mount has been designed to get the rear elements of the lens as close to the sensor as possible. The lens also mounts deeper in the body, all of which is said to give good edge-to-edge image definition.

The Hybrid Multi Viewfinder first appeared in the X100 and can switch instantly between optical and electronic operation. Using optical mode minimises shutter lag, but there is the option to overlay electronic picture-taking information.

There are three fast Fujinon XF lenses, an 18mm f2 (27mm equivalent), a 35mm f1.4 (53mm) and a 60mm f2.4 (91mm) macro.

The top and base of the camera are made from die-cast aluminium with hand-enamelled lettering on the lenses, and its newly-developed APSC-sized CMOS sensor is said to deliver resolution “parallel to a full-frame sensor”.

Features include a Monochrome Expression mode that allows the user to choose from a number of different filters.

As a camera aimed fairly and squarely at the enthusiast user, the X-Pro 1 offers full manual control of shutter speeds and apertures, with a separate  thumb wheel allowing fine tuning of ±2 stops.

Accessories sold separately include a custom-made leather case.

At the time of going to press, the X-Pro1 was selling for typically around £1,400 for the body only.
