| Next-generation RS from Sennheiser | |
| 21 January 2010 SENNHEISER’s next-generation RS range digital wireless headphones are said to offer a major upgrade on their analogue predecessors. The full hi-fi bandwidth wireless headphones use Kleer uncompressed lossless wireless transmission, which, according to the company, offers unprecedented immunity to interference in the increasingly crowded 2.4GHz band. Zero latency also means no lip-sync problems while watching video. There are three models in the RS range, all covered by a two-year global guarantee. They are the RS160 closed-back transportable headphones, which retail at around £139.99, the RS170 closed-back home cinema phones at £179.99 and the RS180 open-back home hi-fi model at £219.99. Common features to all three models are Sennheiser audiophile-grade drive units and design, high-power neodymium-iron magnets for high efficiency and sensitivity, adaptive baffle damping that ensures a consistently powerful bass response, low distortion of 0.5 per cent and a frequency response from 18 to 21,000Hz. All three models are supplied with AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries and carry volume and function controls on the headset. The portable transmitter for the RS160 is powered by AA batteries with a 24-hour battery life. The 160 and 170 have a closed, circumaural design, while the 180 has an open, circumaural design. The RS160 (which has a range of up to 20m) is supplied with a compact (97mm diameter) portable transmitter; the RS170 (range up to 80m) and RS180 (range up to 100m) include a multipurpose transmitter that doubles as a cradle and docking station.
