Ten British tech companies win CES showcase prize, courtesy of UKTI
03 December 2009

When UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the government body supporting British businesses in international markets, announced its competition - in conjunction with media partner ERT - to take ten impressive British businesses to CES 2010 in Las Vegas, it received a host of diverse entries from across the technology industry.

Today (December 3), the UKTI team announced the winning companies, who have all won a place at the media showcase of the world’s largest consumer electronics show, CES Unveiled.

The winners of the competition are (in no particular order):

The Key Revolution: Creator of the Moibu Smart Key, a secure flash drive allowing for secure Cloud computing

Ocean Blue: Provider of software solutions, incorporated into Digital TV consumer electronic devices

Antixlabs: The company behind the Antix Game Player, a software player allowing games to be shared on phones, PCs, TVs and other mobile devices

Mediche Ltd: Creator of the Mediche Life One diabetes management system, combining existing insulin injection technology with mobile communications and web database capabilities

Orbitsound: Loudspeaker design and manufacturing company, and creator of patented airSOUND technology

trueCall: The company behind trueCall, a product that blocks nuisance phone calls and found fame (and investment) on Dragon’s Den

Sontia: Developers of next-generation audio software that aims to bridge the gap between sound and vision technology

CereProc: Developer of advanced speech solutions, providing text-to-speech voices that demonstrate emotion and character

ProVision Communications: Creator of the world’s first consumer electronics technology capable of streaming live HD video content across all rooms of the home

TenBu Technologies Ltd: The company behind nio, a Bluetooth-enabled security alarm for mobile devices

The UKTI competition was designed to highlight the inspiring and innovative work being done in the British technology sector, and give growing companies an opportunity to break into international markets with the support of UKTI experts and specialist PR support.

The competition was open to independent small- and medium-sized businesses with less than 250 employees.

Steve Williams, head of Key Events at UKTI’s ICT team, was thrilled - but not surprised - with the quality of entries this year.

“Our competition was designed to highlight the fantastic work being done in the technology industry, and to support those businesses which are ready to broaden their horizons beyond the UK. And, while it made judging the competition much more difficult, it was a pleasure to see entries from so many British companies who could all compete on an international level. We’re very proud to be supporting the winning companies, all of whom are deserving representatives of the thriving UK technology industry,” he said.

All companies will receive a place on the UKTI stand at CES Unveiled, an event heavily attended by media from around the globe, as well as an exhibitor pass to the show and listings in the UKTI Directory that will be distributed at the show.

In addition, each company will be invited to a CES support day in London, to hear from UKTI and media partner ERT about how to make the most of the show – they will also be filmed and interviewed, and a press pack containing case studies, bespoke press releases and photography will be created free of charge for each business.

On top of receiving PR support both in Las Vegas and in their local region, each company will feature on the UKTechnologyLIVE blog and Twitter accounts, raising their profile within the UK tech industry and beyond.
